Summary:
In this powerful information day with Ron Coleman (Scottish expert in mental health recovery) you will hear about his own recovery from schizophrenia, and how the Hearing Voices Approach made a difference for him – and many thousands of others from around the world. Ron will look at how family, friends and carers can support voice hearers to recover – and care for themselves as well. For further details see flyer attached. Villa Maria is offering a walking group for carers of people in the Eastern Region who are frail aged, have dementia, acquired brain injury or mental illness. The walks will take place every second Monday in the Monash area. The group will get together at a local café for a cuppa following the walk. An enthusiastic speaker, Professor McGorry has addressed many national public forums since becoming Australian of the Year. He is a leading international researcher, clinician and advocate for improvements to Australia’s mental health system. He is also Executive Director of Orygen Youth Health, a world-renowned mental health organisation in Parkville which is at the forefront of innovation in the prevention and treatment of mental illness.
