Criminal Law Policy - Department of Justice

Date: 2-4pm on Wednesday 30th April
Venue: Department of Human Services
Summary:
As you may be aware, the Government has committed to introducing a new
Family Violence Bill.

The Family Violence Bill is intended to replace the Crimes (Family
Violence) Act 1987 and provide a new system of family violence
intervention orders that will focus more clearly on the safety of those
subject to family violence. These changes are being made in response to
the legislative recommendations of the Victorian Law Reform Commission’s
Review of Family Violence Laws: Report. A summary of the major
initiatives in the Family Violence Bill is available to read if you click below.

A forum on the Family Violence Bill for
aged care, mental health and disability stakeholders is to be held

In particular, the forum will discuss the extension of the family
violence intervention order system to carers, whether paid or unpaid,
who are in a family-like relationship with the person they care for.

The details of the forum are:

When: 2-4pm on Wednesday 30 April 2008

Where: Department of Human Services
Conference Room 1.01
Level 1
50 Lonsdale Street Melbourne
